Goodbye 2011

Goodbye 2011

Hasn’t time gone by so quickly? I have become engaged, started studying again and become someone’s wife all in the space of the last 12 months.

Although nobody really knows the words to Britain’s famous new year’s eve song ‘Auld Lang Syne’, it means ‘times gone by’, speaks of fondness of forgotten friends and wonderfully sums up the end of another year.

Traditionally, a new year’s resolution is meant to be set right about now, but one fails to come to mind. It’s a tough convention to live up to and sometimes I’d rather we live like the Spanish who as a ritual, when midnight strikes on new year’s eve, eat 12 grapes as a way to secure twelve happy months in the coming year. Or the Greek who bake a coin in a cake and whoever finds it is promised good fortune – well at least there’s no shame in eating cake involved!

For now other than the usual ‘get fit, healthy and lose that extra Christmas weight’ pledge that is oh so de ja vu, I shall say watch this space until I think of a truly inspirational, un-obvious promise that will make a real difference.

See the link below for a load of multicultural traditional New Year’s resolutions…
